In the first part of this assignment, you are required to take photos of the four main structural concepts (efficient beam, truss, portal frame and form-active structure) of buildings/structures in Brisbane or on the Gold Coast. For each concept photographed, specify the location of the building/structure. Specifically, you are required to: Take photos of two different beams from two different buildings/structures. For each beam identify the cross section of the beam, its material and boundary conditions,schematically show the loads (permanent, imposed and wind actions) on the beam, measure (or accurately estimate) its span and overall dimensions (depth and/or width), and compare the span and depth of the beam with the span table and conclude if the beam is used efficiently. Take photos of two different trusses on two different buildings/structures. For each truss identify its material,schematically show the loads (permanent, imposed and wind actions) on the truss, (3) measure (or accurately estimate) its span and overall dimensions (depth and/or width), andcompare the span and depth of the truss with the span table and conclude if the truss is used efficiently. Take photos of two different portal frames on two different buildings/structures. For each portal frame identify its material, schematically show the loads (permanent, imposed and wind actions) on the frame,  measure (or accurately estimate) its span, height and the overall dimensions (depth and/or width) of the beams constituting the frame, andcompare the span of the frame with the span table and conclude if the frame is used efficiently. Take photos of two different form-active structures on two different buildings/structures. For each structure identify the specific structural system and its material, schematically show the loads (permanent, imposed and wind actions) on the form-active structure, (3) measure (or accurately estimate) its span and overall dimensions (depth and/or width) of the elements constituting the structure (if appropriate), and compare the span of the form-active structure with the span table and conclude if the structure is used efficiently.
